Introduction to Card Making: Standard A2 Cards | Stampin’ Up!

A2 Cards

In the USA, homemade cards are referred to as A2 cards, which measure 4 ¼” x 5 ½” when folded. They are easily made by cutting a piece of 8 ½” x 11” cardstock in half, either horizontally or vertically (see cutting measurements below).

A2 Card Types: Tent Fold and Book Fold

The most used card types are the tent fold and book fold. Both types of cards can be rotated to make a book fold or tent fold card. There are also numerous advanced card designs called fancy folds or fun folds, such as the gate fold, z fold, etc.

A2 Card Layers

To add dimension to handmade cards, the card base can have one or more layers. Most standard A2 cards feature layers cut in ¼” and/or 1/8” increments. The table below lists the most frequently used layers used on A2 cards.
