Stampin' Up! Forever Fern Valentine's Day Card

The Forever Greenery Suite, which includes the Forever Fern Stamp Set and Forever Flourishing Dies, is on the top of my all time favorites (and I've been a crafter for...well...a long, long time). The Distinktive stamp stamps, exclusive to Stampin' Up!, are photorealistic; they provide depth and dimension without the hassle of generational stamping (i.e. two-step, three-step; stamping off). The Forever Fern stamps, in my opinion, are lush and lavish -- they make the greatest focal point for my card projects. I've used the Forever Fern Bundle for every occassion -- birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, Christmas, symathy, etc. So, why not design one for Valentine's Day?

Card Recipe

  • Ink Pads: Night of Navy, Pacific Point, Melon Mambo, VersaMark

  • Adhesives: Multipurpose Liquid Glue, Stampin' Dimensionals, Stampin' Seal

  • Embossing Powder: White Stampin' Emboss Powder

  • Basic Supply Kit: paper trimmer, paper snips/scissors, bone folder

  • Stampin' Up! Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine

  • Heat Tool

  • Tone on Tone Stamping

  • Heat Embossing

Cardstock Layers and Measurements

  • Card Base: Night of Navy (4 1/2" x 11" scored at 5 1/2")

  • Layer #1: Melon Mambo (5 1/4" x 4")

  • Layer #2: Night of Navy (5" x 3 3/4")

  • Layer #3 - Inside: Basic White (5 1/4" x 4")

  • Sentiment: Night of Navy (small enough to create sentiment; perhaps use scrap paper)

Card Assembly

  1. Prepare Your Cardstock: cut/trim/score all cardstock and/or DSP as described above

  2. On Layer #2 (Night of Navy), stamp the longest, leafy stamp (or the stamp of your choosing) on the cardstock with Night of Navy ink. Focus on the edges of the cardstock (the areas that will be visible, on the sides of you bouquet.Tone on tone creates depth and texture--just a little something to make the card more elegant.

  3. Stamp several of the Forever Fern stamps in each of the ink colors (Night of Navy, Pacific Point, and Melon Mambo). Then die cut each one. NOTE: I wasn't sure how I was going to arrange this bundle, so I stamped one of each in each color; then I played around with the arrangement as if I were arranging a real bouquet).

  4. Die cut both of the large flourishing dies from Vellum.

  5. Arrange your bouquet and then adhere the pieces based on your prefernces.

  6. Stamp your sentiment with Versamark, cover with White Stampin' Emboss Powder, melt with a heat tool, and let cool for a few seconds. Then, trim the sentiment down to size, if needed. ALTERNATIVELY you could use a punch, such as the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch.

  7. Adhere the sentiment to the card. You'll likely need dimensionals to ensure the sentiment rises above the bouquet.

  8. Adhere Layer 2 (Night of Navy w/the bouquet) to Layer #1 (Melaon Mambo, with the adhesive of your choosing.

  9. Adhere both Layers 1 and 2 to the front of your ccard base

  10. * Embellish with clear Elegant Faceted Gems. I forgot to do this before taking photos! :-)

  11. Stamp Layer #3 (Basic White) with smaller stamps (I chose the two smaller leaf stems -- the one facing left and the other facing right) in Melon Mambo ink.

  12. Last step... adhere Layer #3 to the inside of your card!
